Triple celebrations planned for Coronation in Eccleshall

Parish Council and Church announce details about the Coronation weekend

TRIPLE CELEBRATIONS PLANNED FOR CORONATION IN ECCLESHALL

The Holy Trinity Parish Church in Eccleshall are making plans to triple the celebrations to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be a new bench, situated in a 'sunny spot' by the south wall of the church to take in the peaceful views over Eccleshall's historic churchyard.

The church will also be holding a communion service on Sunday 7th May to mark the coronation and offer prayer for the new King. Alongside this, a cherry tree will be planted to remember with love those that lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

There will be a triple celebration and commemoration at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Eccleshall, on Sunday May 7 to mark the Coronation of King Charles lll.

The communion service at 10am on Sunday morning will not only celebrate the coronation and offer prayers for the new King, but also dedicate a new bench in the churchyard commemorating the long and exceptional reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The bench will be sited in a sunny spot by the south wall of the church, with peaceful views over the historic churchyard.

Also during the service, all those who died or suffered loss during the Covid Pandemic will be remembered with love and respect as a newly planted flowering cherry tree will be dedicated as a living memorial. The Prunus Matsumae-fuki, ‘Chocolate Ice’ flowering cherry tree was planted this spring at the front of the churchyard where it can be admired by passers-by as it grows.

The plaque which will be placed in front of the tree reads: ‘To remember all those who died or suffered loss during the Covid Pandemic 2020/2021’, plus a verse from St Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians - ‘Faith, hope and love abide, and the greatest of these is love’.

Both the tree and the bench have been jointly funded by Holy Trinity and Eccleshall Parish Council.

Revd Alison Thomas, interim minister at Holy Trinity, commented:

“This will be a very special occasion for the whole Eccleshall community as we celebrate the coronation of King Charles, while paying tribute to the devoted service given by his mother Queen Elizabeth II, and remembering with love and sorrow the tragedy and turmoil of the recent pandemic.

“Everyone is warmly invited to join us at this service, as we mark these milestones in our national life.”
