Local celebrities, businesses and members of the public have all come together at UHNM Charity’s most successful fundraising Golf Day.

UHNM Charity is delighted to announce that the fundraising event, now in its third consecutive year, has helped to raise almost £14,000 to help UHNM Charity improve patient care and experience at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM).

Teams of four took part in a shotgun round of golf at the picturesque Barlaston Golf Club, followed by food and an evening of entertainment on Friday 14 June, raising a total of £13,858 for UHNM Charity’s work at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford.

The event was supported by title sponsors WDPS Stoke Ltd and LD Property.

Wayne Damant of WDPS Stoke Ltd said: “We absolutely love fundraising for UHNM Charity and to see the golf day grow and grow has been fantastic, we're blown away by the support”.

Lisa Thomson, Director of Communications and Charity at UHNM said: “It was so exciting to be back at Barlaston Golf Club for our third and most successful UHNM Charity Golf Day. The weather was kind and the atmosphere with our teams was just amazing. So many people have put in so much hard work and I hope everybody had a special day.

“Every penny raised by those who took part and attended will go towards helping UHNM Charity improve the care and experience of our patients, and help us to provide over and above what the NHS normally does.”

The golf day also had a guest of honour- former Wales international footballer Dean Saunders.

Dean said: “I’m delighted to attend in benefit of a great cause, we know how good the NHS. Barlaston was a tough course but lovely, with lots of ditches and lots of water.”

The golf day was also attended by local sportspeople including boxer Nathan ‘Hitman’ Heaney and former Stoke City FC defender Carl Dickinson.

Nathan Heaney said: “The work of UHNM and UHNM Charity is amazing. My daughter was recently diagnosed with colitis, so we spent a lot of time up at Royal Stoke, so I’ve seen first-hand the incredible work that they do.”

Carl Dickinson said: “It’s always a fantastic day out to support UHNM Charity. UHNM do a lot of work for our local population and any way we can get involved is a good day to be part of.”
