Stafford park’s £265,000 revamp plans to be discussed

People will get the opportunity to give views on a plan to revamp facilities at a popular park in Stafford.

More than £265,000 has been set aside to start the refurbishment of Rowley Park - which is home to a 3G football pitch, running track, tennis courts as well as children’s play area.

Funding has come from contributions paid to Stafford Borough Council by developers who have carried out projects, such as housing developments, in the area.

Senior councillors will discuss the proposed revamp at a meeting on Thursday (9 January)

The site is managed on behalf of the borough council by their partners - Freedom Leisure. The plans will look at facilities for toddlers, juniors as well as a multi-use games areas, walking routes and picnic places.

Councillors will hear that putting together a masterplan for the whole area will allow them to carry out the main proposals of the refurbishment in the first phase of work before delivering specific elements later - such as an outdoor gym or wheeled sports bowl - if more funding is made available.

The report to cabinet says a comprehensive consultation exercise will be carried out with people in the community - especially users of the park - before a draft masterplan is drawn up.
