Jacob Cross takes a look at this weekend's football action.
Macclesfield v Stafford Rangers
Kick Off: 3pm
At the Leasing.com Stadium
Stafford Rangers make the 70 miles round trip to Macclesfield FC, who have often been regarded as 'title favourites'.
Both teams are in contrasting form, with the hosts having one loss in their past five games and Matt Hill's side having two wins in their last five. The Rangers' defensive consistency has suffered as a result of injury, which has resulted in one clean sheet in their first nine games.
Stafford Rangers are now a point above the danger zone, with a number of sides capable of leapfrogging them to safety if they do not defeat the Silkmen. Rangers have only won twice this season, starting with a home win over FC United of Manchester and finishing with their most recent and only away win over struggling Basford United.
Both triumphs happened in quick succession. Despite efficiently recruiting during the off season, Macclesfield have struggled to replicate their promotion success in their new surroundings. Luke Duffy, who was promoted with Warrington Town last season, and Hayden Campbell, a former Curzon Ashton player who took the Northern Premier League by storm with Marine AFC last season, are both new signings who are well equipped for this division. With 10 points out of a possible 12, the Silkmen now have the second most points at home this season, trailing only FC United of Manchester.
Stafford Town v Winsford United
Kick Off: 3pm
At Evans Park.
Following a remarkable win with 10 men against play-off chasing Ashville, Adam Wall's Stafford Town have the chance to make it successive wins for the first time since August 19th, when they defeated Abbey Hulton United in a seven-goal thriller.
They will face Winsford United back at Evans Park, who have won their first game in 12 attempts.
Injury and poor discipline have hampered Adam Wall's side, and as a result, Stafford Town have made additions in the early months of the season, including the recent signings of Luca Smith, Joe Perry, and Cora Mallen.
Town's safety net above the relegation zone may be extended to 13 points if they win, but failure would reduce the buffer to 7 points.
Winsford United recently defeated New Mills 5-1 to go into second-from-bottom position in the standings. They were comfortably defeated 3-0 by Adam Wall's men in their previous 12 tries at triumph, so vengeance may be on the agender.
Brocton v Eccleshall
Kick Off: 3pm
At Silkmore Lane.
Brocton Town won their seventh consecutive game, a club record, thanks to two goals in the dying minutes against Sandbach United.
Eccleshall, the only team to have defeated Alex Curtis' men earlier in the season, will be the Badgers' visitors to Silkmore Lane. Despite disappointment in the play-offs last season, they haven't let it affect them this season, as they presently lead the way after 10 games, with Market Drayton a point behind but having played three more games.
When the Eagles visit the Badgers, they could become the first club this season to produce a league double over Brocton. Despite only losing two games in the league, the majority of their points have come through draws, with six in their first eleven games. With outcomes going their way, victory could propel the Eagles into sixth place, up five spots from where they presently sit.
