Former Walton High School pupil gets England call up

Jonah Scutt has been called up to represent his country.

A former Walton High School pupil, Jonah Scutt, has received a call up to the England Under 18's set up.

The 17 year old Stafford college student and aspiring footballer has spoken of his 'delight' and 'pride' at getting the nod at 3 upcoming international matches.

After being nominated to trial for the England U18 Schoolboys’ team by Staffordshire County Schools’ FA, Jonah made it through three rounds of trials to be selected to represent the England Schoolboys this season.

He then attended the home of England football, St George’s Park, in February half term to be presented with his England kit, sponsored by Arnold Clark and undergo four days of training and team-bonding. This included playing in the team’s first international friendly v ISFA (Independent Schools’ FA).

Jonah and the team travelled to Northern Ireland on Thursday 22 February for their first competitive match in the SAFIB Centenary Shield competition, again the Northern Irish Under18 Schoolboys’ team.

Despite a disappointing 3-0 defeat against a strong Northern Ireland side, Jonah made the grade to represent England Under 18's Schoolboys' team to face Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland.

Speaking with Stu Haycock on Stafford FM's Breakfast Show on Wednesday morning (20th March), Jonah told us:

"It's incredible. You always dream of getting to a decent standard and I just hope I can push on from here."

The 3 upcoming internationals take place on the following dates;

Wales v England | Thursday 28 March | 7pm KO | Briton Ferry
England v Republic of Ireland | Friday 5 April | 7pm KO | Walsall FC
England v Scotland | Friday 12 April | 7pm KO | Chesterfield FC

Jonah continued:

"I have just fought off an injury and worked really hard to get back to fitness and getting selected was a dream come true."

The exciting young striker is hopeful he'll get a start in the 3 fixtures and is keen to show what he can do.

Tickets are priced at £8 for adults and £5 for concessions, and are available to see the England internationals by heading to the English Schools Football Association website; ENGLAND TICKETS ON ESFA WEBSITE
