Crowds turn out to cheer on runners in the Stafford Half

The 40th anniversary of the Stafford Half Marathon took place on Sunday 17th March.

Nearly 2,000 runners took part in this year's Stafford Half Marathon as the event celebrated its 40th anniversary.

The slightly tweaked route was mapped out earlier this week after flooding on parts of the original course, but a damp start to proceedings on Sunday morning didn't deter enthusiastic crowds as the race got under way at 10am.

This year's main event took place in Victoria Park with the start and finish line along Station Road, Victoria Road and Tenterbanks.

Runners from dozens of clubs across the area including; TB Triathlon, Stafford Tri Club, a large contingent from the Stafford Harriers, Stone Marathoners and the Penkridge Runners took part in the celebratory 40th race with the men's winner, Will Draper (Manx Tri Club) finishing first across the line in 1:08:48.

Will was closely followed by Jim Hickinbottom (Shrewsbury AC) and Thomas Chell (City of Stoke AC).

The first lady across the finish line was Stafford's Rebecca Harrison, representing Stafford Harriers.

Over 300 'fun runners' also took part in the annual 'Fun Run' which set off along Victoria Road after the start of the showpiece event.

Hundreds of supportive spectators lined the route to cheer on the runners as they made their way around the course in Stafford - with a huge following also giving encouragement to runners as they crossed the finish line on Victoria Road.
