Stafford's Market Square was officially re-opened
Residents, shoppers and businesses gathered in the Market Square for a day of music, dancing and street performances on Saturday.
The new-look Market Square was officially re-opened by the Worshipful Mayor of Stafford, Councillor Andy Cooper, which was then followed by an impromptu performance by youngsters from the Stafford Gatehouse theatre.
The refurbishment has seen 2,500 square metres of new paving, new furniture and planting, as well as significant some improvements to underground infrastructure such as utility supplies and drainage.
The work is the first phase of transformation of the Stafford Hight Street which is hoped will attract more events and specialist markets into the town centre.
The project was funded through a successful borough council bid to the government’s Future High Street Fund (FHSF).
The official opening got under way at around noon with Stafford FM providing music and commentary, followed by performances by the Stafford Corps of Drums, Jazz singer Sarah Eastwood and Stafford Rock Choir will be performing alongside local dance group Dappa Dance and a host of street performers.
