People who have lost a loved one are invited to dedicate a light on a Christmas tree in memory of someone special.

People who have lost a loved one are invited to dedicate a light on a Christmas tree
in memory of someone special.

In the year that marks Stafford charity Katharine House Hospice’s 35 th Anniversary,
the community is invited to take part in its Light Up A Life appeal.

Katharine House will decorate its Christmas tree with around 3,000 lights, each
dedicated to someone loved and lost.

The charity has been running this annual appeal for over 25 years as a way for
people to remember loved ones and help raise vital funds.

Supporters who dedicate a light will receive a special card featuring the name of their
loved one and are invited to the Light Up A Life service at the hospice, on Weston
Road, Stafford, on Sunday, 8 December at 5 pm, when the lights will be switched on
and people can view their loved one’s name in the Book of Lights.

Hospice Lead Nurse, Carina Lowe, said: “Christmas is a season full of love,
cherished memories and bringing people together. While it is joyful for some it can
be a difficult time of year for others who are unwell, those who have a loved one who
is poorly or families mourning a loss.
“All donations will help us continue providing our vital care services to local people
and their families, some of whom may be spending their last Christmas together.

We want to make each moment special for each person. It costs almost £4 million each
year to provide our care and we really couldn’t offer this without our supporters. We
want to be there for every family who needs our care.”

Treeway Fencing Ltd has generously donated the Christmas tree with KGL Estates
Ltd and MMS Marketing Solutions sponsoring the main appeal and lights. The tree
forms the focal point of the annual event, which sees local people celebrating the life
of someone special, as a light shines in their honour.

You can find out more about the Light Up A Life appeal by calling the fundraising
team on 01785 270808 or here, LIGHT UP A LIFE where you can also
sponsor a light online and add your loved one’s name, a message and an image to
the virtual tree.
