Broadcasting Legend Steve Wright passes away

The Radio 2 and former Radio 1 presenter has died at the age of 69.

One of the most iconic radio broadcasters, Steve Wright, has passed away at the age of 69.

In a statement shared with the BBC, Wright's family said:

"It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright.

In addition to his son, Tom, and daughter, Lucy, Steve leaves behind his brother, Laurence and his father Richard, Also, much-loved close friends and colleagues, and millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve into their daily lives as one of the UK's most enduring and popular radio personalities.

As we all grieve, the family requests privacy at this difficult time."

Steve Wright hosted incredibly popular shows on Radio One in the 1980's & 1990's, before finding a new home on Radio 2's 'BIG' afternoon show.

Tributes have been pouring in from across the industry after the sad news broke on World Radio Day 2024.
