Annual pancake race sure to be flippin success in Stafford

Local teams are already gearing up for the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake race in Stafford next week.

Local businesses, organisations, and groups are taking part in the popular competition which gets underway in the town’s Market Square on Tuesday.

The event is organised by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Stafford Borough Council and has proved to be a popular annual showpiece with lots of residents, shoppers and visitors looking on as the teams of four compete to be the best ‘flippers’ in town.

It is free to enter with teams often competing in fancy dress. The winners receive an honorary frying pan - with the losers getting the wooden spoon.

A number of teams have registered to be on the start line at 12.30pm on Tuesday 4 March - including MOD Stafford, The Stafford Building Society and Bizarre Balloons.

The Mayor of Stafford Borough, Councillor Frank James, will get the event underway and will be handing out the prizes.

Laura Morris, from Freedom Leisure, said: “This is a popular fun event in the heart of the county town and we are looking forward to crowning the Pancake Flipping Champions of 2025 who will receive the coveted winners frying pan.

“And not only is it totally free to enter, it free to come along and watch.”
