Stafford to Commemorate 80th Anniversary of VE Day on May 10th, 2025
Staffordshire Cultural Events CIC is excited to announce the upcoming celebration marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day on Saturday 10th May 2025, from 12 PM to 5:30 PM in Victoria Park, Stafford.
This landmark occasion will be an unmissable event, blending the historic VE Day commemoration with the “Stafford In the World” event, conceived by former MP Jeremy LeFroy. The celebration will be a vibrant, fun-filled party for everyone to enjoy!
Free admission will allow the whole community to come together and celebrate this pivotal moment in world history—the day that marked the end of World War II in Europe, following Germany’s unconditional surrender. It’s a day of remembrance, gratitude, and celebration of peace.
Expect a host of cultural displays, live performances, and entertainment, including a wartime medley from Pippa Attwood, Soprano, and a solo performance of the national anthem, and bugler Nathan.
Local businesses will showcase their work through exhibition stands and demonstrations, adding to the lively atmosphere. The Armed Forces will also be present, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by those who served during the war.
Join us for a day full of history, culture, and community spirit—it’s a celebration you won’t want to
Local businesses in Stafford are invited to participate and join in the event. For more information on how to get involved, interested parties are encouraged to contact Lorraine.

About 'Stafford In the World': First conceptualised by Jeremy LeFroy, 'Stafford In the World’ celebrates Stafford’s global connections.
History of VE Day
Victory in Europe Day marks May 8th 1945, on which day the Second World War Allies formally accepted an unconditional surrender by the armed forces of Germany and the end of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich after six years of the bloodiest conflict in human history.
On April 30th 1945, Hitler had committed suicide during the Battle for Berlin.
The surrender of Germany was authorised by his replacement President of Germany, Karl Dönitz.
The administration headed up by Dönitz was known as the Flensburg government.
The act of military surrender was signed on May 7th 1945 in Reims, France and May 8th 1945 in Berlin, Germany.

V-E Day in the United Kingdom
In the UK a crowd of 50,000 packed Piccadilly Circus waving flags.
A national holiday was declared and there was dancing in the street and singing.
At 3pm Prime Minister Winston Churchill broadcast from the War Cabinet Office to tell the nation war was over. It was the same room Neville Chamberlain had announced that the country was at war in 1939.
King George VI also spoke to the nation on the radio, paying tribute to those who “laid down their lives” during the war. The Royal Family made eight appearances during the day, waving to crowds on the balcony at Buckingham Palace. The two young princesses, Elizabeth and Margaret slipped out of the palace to join the crowds.
