Dave Lovell, the Chairman of the Staffordshire Regiment Association (Stafford Branch), contracted me recently regarding some really sad news. You may of heard the interview with Dave on the mid morning show and also in our local news last week.
Dave said that they had recently received bad news on the passing of one of their members. A local man who had served in the REME, completed his military service and returned to Stafford. Sadly he died alone at home.
"A really nice guy who had time for everyone. Earlier this month when they received the information of his passing their Branch Secretary and wife of a member have worked tirelessly to see if we can obtain funding to give him a military style send off. If they fail in the fund raising, he will be given a pauper service and cremation with no one at his service".
"They have tried the Royal British Legion (Stafford) and been told they will not help as he was not a member. SSAFA can not assist us at this time as we are not family. So they have had no choice but to start a Go Fund Me page on Facebook".
Dave asked us if we can assist in getting the message out to the Public.

If anyone would like to donate please go to facebook, Staffordshire Regimental Association look up the go fund me page for Roger Southern and make a donation. They aim to raise around £5,000.00 to give him a military style send off. Time is of the essence.

Date and Time of the Funeral has now been arranged for Friday 1st March 2024 at 12noon, Stafford Crematorium.
